Updates on Vietnam’s North–South High-Speed Rail Project

Vietnam is pushing forward with its first high-speed rail, set to begin construction in late 2026 or 2027 and become operational by 2035. While major players like VinSpeed and THACO have already expressed interest, most recently, Siemens reaffirmed its intention to participate in Vietnam’s infrastructure development—particularly in high-speed rail—during a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Tianjin on June 25, 2025. Prime Minister Chinh underscored infrastructure as a key driver of national growth and welcomed public-private partnerships to mobilize investment in critical sectors such as transportation, energy, and digital infrastructure.

Luther Vietnam: Tariff Talks – Clouds on the Horizon?

As the 90-day pause on Trump-era tariffs nears its end, Vietnam’s soaring trade surplus with the U.S. could heighten tensions. 

Speaking to Reuters, Luther Vietnam Country Head, Leif D. Schneider noted: “These new figures may cast some clouds over the negotiations and put pressure on Vietnam to make further concessions to reach an agreement.
