Hybrid Conference on Investment in Thai Binh, June 28, 2023

Over recent years, Vietnam's investment landscape has thrived with a stable political climate, robust economic growth, and favorable investment environment. The Northern provinces have gained increased appeal among foreign investors. AHK Vietnam partnered with Thai Binh People's Committee and GBA Vietnam to organize a two-day delegation trip to Hai Phong and Thai Binh province on June 27-28. The delegation comprised 45 representatives from GBA members and German companies in Vietnam, emphasizing the growing interest in the region.

On June 28, the delegation, together with representatives from Ministries, provincial leaders of Thai Binh, and local companies gathered in Thai Binh province for a strategic conference on investment opportunities. The conference included keynote speeches, discussions between local authorities, associations, local companies, colleges, and German companies. A significant highlight was the signing of MOU between AHK Vietnam and Thai Binh Province. The conference unveiled further potentials of Thai Binh Province and addressed investors' inquiries.

HCMC: VDW Symposium: Innovation in Production Technology – Machine Tools from Germany, June 13, 2023

AHK Vietnam was honoured to host this symposium in collaboration with VDW - German Machine Tool Builders’ Association for the third time.

More than 100 Vietnamese participants, as well as international industry experts from Siemens, Open Mind, Index, Gleason, Rhenus, etc., gathered at the Reverie Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City, where the VDW Symposium was taking place.

Viessmann Opens its First Factory in Vietnam to Boost Sustainable Production

Dong Nai, 22 June, GBA member - Viessmann - a German-based leading provider of climate solutions, officially inaugurated its new factory in Dong Nai Province. By introducing its first factory in Vietnam,  Viessmann commits to enhancing and strengthening the long-term value chain in Southeast Asia. Mr. Alexander Ziehe, Managing Director Southeast Asia & Oceania of Viessmann Vietnam/ GBA Board Member emphasized the commitment to expand business operations in the Southeast Asian region by developing products that meet consumer needs.

MOU Signing Ceremony on the Investment Promotion between GBA & IPA Da Nang

On the afternoon of June 23 in Da Nang city, in collaboration with the City People’s Committee, the Investment Promotion Agency (IPA Danang) held a seminar on promoting investment connection between Da Nang and Germany, with the participation of the Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Mr. Ho Ky Minh, the Director of IPA Danang Mrs. Huynh Lien Phuong, together with the German business delegation led by the Co-Chairman of German Business Association (GBA) Mr. Elmar Dutt and GBA Vice-Chairman/Chief Representative of the German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam) Mr. Marko Walde.

GBA Facilitates a Dialogue with the Quang Nam’s Provincial People Committees on Promoting Trade and Investment in the Central Vietnam

On the morning of June 23 in Quang Nam province, the German business delegation led by the GBA Co-Chairman Mr. Elmar Dutt, GBA Vice-Chairman/Chief Representative of AHK Vietnam Mr. Marko Walde, and GBA Board member Mr. Andre de Jong, had a meeting with Mr. Ho Quang Buu, the Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee and the leaders of related departments and agencies, to bolster the economic cooperation between Germany and Vietnam in Quang Nam province.

Excursion to VinFast, Hai Phong, June 27, 2023

During the business trip in Northern Vietnam, on June 27, 
the AHK/GBA delegation of 45 members had joined in on-site excursions to Vinfast factory of 1 million sqm on-site land in Hai Phong. After meeting with the DCEO and the leaders of VinFast, they were taken in a tour by e-bus to learn an overview about vinfast and their product introduction. More specifically, the delegates also experienced test driving on the latest versions of VinFast e-car.

The initial investment was US$1.5 billion for the first phase of a program to produce passenger vehicles, electric busses and electric motorbikes at the facilities. Our big thanks to the VinFast and the whole team, without their unwavering support our excursion would not have been possible.

MOU Signing Ceremony with VGEC, June 29, 2023

On June 29, AHK Vietnam and Vietnam Germany Eager JSC (VGEC) have signed the MoU in witness of the Project Team HiH and ProRecognition projects, including the delegation from Berlin our AHK Vietnam’s coordinators.

By this MoU, cooperation between the two parties in placing suitable and motivated skilled workers in Germany has been established to spread the program’s info to interested candidates and roll out proper recruitment procedures. Carrying out sufficient training courses and implementing the recognition of Vietnamese professional qualifications in Germany are also in the scope of the MoU.

We are confident about this new collaboration and committed to our strategic goals of easing the labor shortage in Germany and bringing opportunities to Vietnamese talents who want to work and live long-term in Germany.

First AHK Delegation Trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, June, 2023

Our AHK delegation was visiting Phnom Penh for the first time as representative of the German businesses. We were meeting with local authorities, the local business association, as well as the German Ambassador and the European and German business community in this country. We made the most of every hour to understand and explore Cambodia, to grasp the opportunities and challenges that persist, to assess and advise on investment, and to facilitate German capital flow into this country.

Meeting with The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), June 15, 2023

On June 15, Marko Walde and his delegation honourably encountered Mr. H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

During the meeting, representatives from both parties expressed their willingness to corporate and work closely together to promote the investment environment in Cambodia. We also endeavour to target more German companies, who already have a presence in Southeast Asia, to expand their business & production in Cambodia.

Meeting with EuroCham Cambodia, June 14, 2023

In terms of the business trip to Cambodia to explore and get to know our new partners, Marko Walde and our Regional Management Team had the first successful meeting with EuroCham Cambodia and learned more about opportunities for our upcoming cooperation.

The briefing was tremendously helpful and provided our Vietnam Team with more information about the current economic status of Cambodia and the country’s potential for FDIs in the near future.

On the delegation trip to Phnom Penh on June 15, Marko Walde had the honour of meeting with Mr. Meng Nimol, Deputy Director General of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting delved into the business landscape of Cambodia, highlighting both opportunities and challenges. To encourage German investment in Cambodia, AHK Vietnam emphasized the need for collaboration between German organizations and local firms to effectively showcase the country's potential.

Meeting with Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ), June 16, 2023

On 16 June, Marko Walde and his delegation carried on the Cambodia trip by a visit to the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

We had the pleasure to meet the CEO, Mr. Uematsu Hiroshi, and went through key information on business environment, as well as economic insights of the Cambodian market.

Cambodia Economic Overview 2022

Despite weaker global demand, Cambodia’s economy remained resilient and performed well in 2022. Presented below are the figures outlining the economic state of Cambodia in 2022:

• GDP Growth: Cambodia sustained its strong economic momentum, with a projected GDP growth rate of 5.2% in 2022.
• Inflation Rate: In 2022, Cambodia experienced a moderate increase in inflation, with the rate reaching 5.3%.
• Labor force: The labor force, total in Cambodia was reported at 9 million in 2022 according to the World Bank, and at 53.6% of the country’s total population.
• Trade Relations with Germany: Currently, 40 German businesses are presenting in Cambodia, which demonstrates the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

Supported Event: German Trade Mission to Cambodia: Opportunities in Waste Management and Resources Recovery, October 22 – 28, 2023

The European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) Cambodia will conduct a German Trade Mission on Opportunities in Waste Management and Resource Recoveryto Cambodia October this year, on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program entails dialogues with high-level government institutions, private stakeholders, and partners from development cooperation and finance, as well as a number of site visits, including landfills, processing plants, and special economic zones.
