AHK World Business Outlook Spring 2023
German companies are looking more positively at their international locations than they were in the fall of 2022, but with only muted confidence about the future. Regarding economic development, optimists (28 percent) and pessimists (27 percent) are roughly balanced.
Various risks are clouding the economic outlook. The top three include a shortage of skilled workers (40 percent, all-time high), economic policy framework conditions (39 percent), and demand (38 percent).

Phu Yen: Meeting with Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee, May 26, 2023
On May 26, Mr. Ta Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Yen, met and held discussions with Mr. Marko Walde to exchange ideas on promoting cooperation in trade and investment between the two parties in the near future. The meeting was attended by representatives from German businesses - STADA and wpd - and leaders of provincial departments and sectors.
During the working session, Mr. Marko Walde expressed his desire to promote German trade and investment cooperation with Phu Yen province in various fields, especially in areas such as green energy, healthcare, industry, innovation, and sustainability.

Ho Chi Minh City: Exporting Fresh Fruit and Vegetables to Asia and Europe: Requirements and Trends, May 18, 2023
On May 18th, 2023, the first event deepening about chances and opportunities for Vietnamese fruit and vegetables successfully took place with the participation of more than 70 representatives from relevant companies and exporters.

Berlin: AHK World Conference 2023, May 8 – 11, 2023
The AHK World Conference is the central event of the worldwide network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs). It took place again in Berlin from 8 to 11 May 2023 after a 5-year break.
The German Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) is the host of the World Conference, under this organization the AHK Network operates.
The AHK Network provides advice, support, and representation for German companies at 150 locations in 93 countries and receives co-financing from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
AHK representatives from 93 countries came together at DIHK to foster and deepen the exchange views with each other as well as with their partners from German business, politics and academia.

Berlin: World Conference Workshop - AHK Vietnam's Presentation about "Pre-integration", May 9, 2023
AHK Vietnam – Marko Walde and Trang Dao - participated in a workshop at the World Conference (Tuesday, May 9, 15:00-17:00).
The first part included insights from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Federal Foreign Office, in collaboration with DIHK. The second part was the workshop session, where AHK Vietnam took the lead in presenting on the topic of "Pre-integration", focusing on what can be done to prepare skilled workers (and companies!).

Vietnam Economic Monitoring – First Four Months of 2023
By the first four months of 2023, in the effort to overcome socio-economic hardships, Vietnam is taking steps in boosting the economy moderately, proven as a promising destination for foreign companies to diversify their businesses.
- The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) fell by 1.8% following by the slowdown in global economic recovery with tight monetary policies, leading to reduces in demand of trading partners.
- The total export and import of goods turn-over reaches 210.79 billion US$, down 13.6% over the same period last year.
- The average Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases by 3.84%. The inflation rate continues to rise to 4.9%.
- On accumulated by April 20, 2023, the total registered FDI capital in Vietnam records at 9 billion US$.
- By the end of March 2023, Germany has 443 FDI projects with a total registered capital of 2.36 billion USD.

Mr. Marko Walde had an interview with VTV4 about "How do foreign investors evaluate the competition to attract FDI between Vietnam and other countries in the region".
Currently, Vietnam is using tariff preferences as a financial leverage tool to attract foreign investors. The introduction of a global minimum tax will create some challenges for FDI attraction. VnExpress: Long Thanh International Airport – Update on Expected Look and Completion Time
According to the latest update from VnExpress, Long Thanh International Airport is planned to complete phase one of construction by 2026, with capacity of serving 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
The expected look of the soon-to-be passenger terminal’s design and construction are also revealed, which use the most modern technologies in aviation. Especially, it takes the lotus as the main inspiration and incorporates it into the design of the roof, main front of the terminal and interior of the check-in lobby.
However, the completion of the project has been delayed until at least 2026 due to the failure to select a contractor.

Hanoi: Information Day – Germany Welcomes You! Study.Work.Discover, May 20, 2023
On May 20, the Information Day of ‘Germany Welcomes You! Study.Work.Discover’, co-hosted by AHK Vietnam and Goethe Institute, Hanoi, has successfully concluded with the participation of 150 young members.
During the event, participants had enthusiastically taken part in workshops and activities to study about German culture; asked speakers many interesting questions related to the recognition of professional qualification, life and working in Germany.
Most especially, there were more than 30 participants interested in the ProRecognition project of AHK Vietnam and registered to receive deeper advice to well-prepare for the journey to Germany.

GBA Excursion to Vietnamese-German University (VGU) New Campus
Ho Chi Minh City, Thursday, 18 May – Following our successful excursion series in 2022, we kicked off the first excursion trip in 2023 to the Vietnamese – German University in Binh Duong. Their newly built campus with total investment capital of US$200 million is a part of “The Vietnam New-Model University Project”. Set within a total land area of 50.5 ha, the development consists of five primary areas: academic and research, science park, sports and support services, student residences, and faculty housing. The facilities of the VGU will be able to train 6,000 students by 2030 in accordance with the standards of German and international universities.
