I participated in IMD's OWP (Orchestrating Winning Performance) Singapore 2024 last week and gained numerous valuable insights. Here are my key takeaways: The advantage of learning through case studies lies not just in understanding examples of success, but in abstracting their essence to develop frameworks that can be applied to other situations. That said, frameworks are not formulas for success; they are structured approaches to exploring fundamental questions. While they provide guidance to simplify complex realities, the real challenge in management lies in bridging the gap between "knowing" and "doing." This gap often arises from two main factors: ① operational challenges and ② a lack of intent or will on the part of leaders. Ultimately, management is about leadership—what values a leader prioritizes and how they motivate others. Those who can genuinely say that the future their company strives to create aligns with the future they envision for themselves are, in my view, true business leaders. Management knowledge and leadership are the two wheels driving organizational evolution. IMD’s programs offer an exceptional opportunity to delve deeply into both dimensions, a value I experienced firsthand. My journey with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and the Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSETA) International Leadership Development Program (ILDP) has been profoundly transformative, shaping me into a more adept and insightful leader. Transitioning from completing my Post Graduate Diploma in General Management to embarking on my MBA journey with GIBS, I find myself immersed in a world of continuous growth and discovery. The ILDP, offered in conjunction with GIBS, has been a cornerstone of my leadership evolution. From the outset, I sensed I was embarking on an extraordinary educational voyage. The program's complete curriculum, facilitated by esteemed faculty members, not only equipped me with theoretical knowledge but also provided practical insights crucial for navigating the complexities of modern leadership. The ILDP's global perspective has been instrumental in broadening my understanding of leadership dynamics. Venturing across three continents — Africa, North America, and Asia — exposed me to diverse cultures, management philosophies, and business ecosystems. In Kenya, I admired at the creativity of local entrepreneurs, learning firsthand the value of adaptability and innovation. Engaging with leaders in the United States afforded me invaluable lessons in strategic thinking and organisational excellence. Meanwhile, my immersion in Indonesia shed light on the intricacies of leadership within emerging markets, emphasizing the importance of cultural acumen and global awareness. My participation in the GIBS Business School and W&RSETA ILDP has been nothing short of a transformative journey. As I continue my MBA journey, I am eager to leverage the knowledge and experiences collected from this exceptional program to make a meaningful impact within my organisation and beyond. With a renewed sense of purpose and a global perspective, I am aim to navigate the complexities of leadership in an ever-evolving landscape, driving positive change and inspiring those around me to reach their fullest potential.

"Leadership Greatness", Advanced Leadership Program for Regional Managers of PT PNM Indonesia. Batch 1, Jakarta 20-22 January 2025. This program is essentially about cultivating and nurturing the virtues of wisdom as the core leadership character. In the increasing roles of AI in management functions such as data analysis and decision making, leadership development should focus on strengthening the leadership core that cannot be performed by AI. According to research by Harvard Business School, at the very core of human leadership are three core qualities: awareness, compassion, and wisdom.

What I learned in Singapore is changing how I lead—here’s what you should know. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Singapore with 50 educationists from all over India. We explored their education system, visited the National Institute of Education, and immersed ourselves in their leadership philosophies. And honestly, it was an eye-opening experience. Here’s what truly struck me: being efficient as a leader is not enough. We need to be effective in everything we do. As I reflect on my own leadership journey, I realise how crucial it is to constantly improve and evolve. This visit taught me a few valuable lessons that I’m bringing back: 1. Great leaders cultivate a culture of excellence, not just good enough. Setting higher expectations for your team leads to growth. 2. Data isn’t just numbers—it’s the map that guides us. Understanding the story data tells helps us make informed, impactful decisions. 3. Leadership isn’t static. We must keep learning and developing, both for ourselves and for the people we lead. As a business owner and leader, it’s clear that growth is an ongoing journey—there’s always more to learn. And these insights from Singapore are helping me redefine my role.
