'WE WANT TO JOIN BRICS' - Prabowo moves fast. Indonesia has expressed its interest in joining the Russia-led group BRICS, marking the first major foreign diplomacy move out of the “good neighbor policy” that the freshly installed President Prabowo Subianto has proposed. The BRICS alliance -- which first took shape to counter Western dominance -- originally brought together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, hence the acronym. It has admitted new members Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia has yet to officially join BRICS despite having received the invitation from the group.  Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono unveiled Indonesia’s desire for membership at the BRICS Plus Summit in Russia’s Kazan on Thursday local time. According to Sugiono, BRICS can become a vehicle to promote the interests of the “Global South”, a term that commonly refers to developing countries. Uzbekistan Proposes to Host Forum of CIS Regions in Tashkent Uzbekistan is advocating for the Forum of Regions of the CIS countries to be held in Tashkent, as reported by TASS and confirmed by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev. The CIS Executive Committee has already received a formal note from Uzbekistan's authorities proposing this exciting initiative. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a two-day official visit from July 11-12, at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Sharif and his cabinet members warmly welcomed President Aliyev at the airport, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar. The arrival was marked by a 21-gun salute, and two children in traditional attire presented bouquets to the dignitary. President Aliyev is scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit. Discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest. Furthermore, Pakistan and Azerbaijan plan to sign 15 memoranda of understanding today, aiming to boost bilateral trade and cooperation across multiple sectors. Last week, we had the great honor of hosting a reception for our Honorary Consuls from the Benelux countries at the Estonian Embassy in The Hague. Among the participants were our Honorary Consuls from Amsterdam, Bilthoven, Eindhoven, Zwolle, Luxembourg, and Antwerp. The plans for 2025 were outlined and topics included foreign policy, consular matters and special attention was given to the role of business diplomacy, as well as the growth and expansion of the Dutch business diplomacy network in recent years. In terms of trade, the Netherlands is Estonia's 7th largest export partner and the trade volume between Estonia and the Netherlands has remained robust. Even though the trade volumes between Estonia and Belgium are relatively low the recent agreement between the Estonian shipbuilder Baltic Workboats and Regional Government in the Flanders region in Belgium show a possibilties to deepen the economic relations between Estonia and Belgium as well. These meetings and discussions provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and share insights on how to support international business expansion and opportunities.
