The English Proficiency Index released by global education company Education First (EF) reveals the top countries in Europe for speaking English. EF compiled English test results from 2 million people around the world, including 35 European countries, to make its rankings. Austria came in second, and first place is taken by the Netherlands, with between 91% and 93% of Dutch people saying they can hold a conversation in English. 🗣️ If you are worried about not speaking German, you should know that the work visa in Austria is based on a score: either you have knowledge of the language, or you can prove that you have years of work experience in a certain area (for example, 1 year in gastronomy and English B2, or 7 years of gastronomy experience and English A2). I thought you just packed the right things in your suitcase and got on the plane. I have a lot to think about!❞ A client said this to me at the end of our session today and it’s not unusual. There are still misconceptions about what intercultural training is and participants sometimes come to their workshop expecting only country generalisations and practical do’s and don’ts. Some practical information is important, of course, particularly for international assignees – it can put their mind at rest and help them to navigate their transition more smoothly. It seems like a shortsighted move to draw the attention of the world to show that Malaysia has some kind of post-study visa, yet it remains a luxury as it excludes most students from developing countries who make up the majority of Malaysia's international student population. As per Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), the students originated from countries such as China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, and Japan in 2021. I wonder if these statistics were considered while announcing the graduate pass. India and China has been added to the list lately, but what about other countries? The limitation to 23 countries is unequal and unfair treatment towards students from developing countries.
