THE 21ST NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS: STRENGTHENING HIGH-QUALITY INVESTMENT ATTRACTION WITH THE AIM OF GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF PROVINCES 📌 This afternoon, Marko Walde, Chief Representative of AHK in Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos was honored to take part in the 21st National Conference on Provincial Affairs hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Hanoi. The conference was the gathering point between diplomatic and economic organizations, as well as foreign business chambers and associations. 📌 Sharing in the panel discussion on international trends, experiences, and recommendations for Vietnam’s provinces in attracting high-quality investment, Marko Walde highlighted energy transition as one of the crucial components of Vietnam’s strategies to enthrall more German investors. Germany itself is the world's fourth-largest economy, as well as a leader in the energy transition, ranking 11th out of 120 countries on the Energy Transition Index 2023. Some remarkable achievements from this endeavor can be named such as: 🟢 Improved energy efficiency: Germany has invested in energy-efficient technologies and infrastructure, resulting in a 9% reduction in the energy intensity of its economy. 🟢 Increased share of renewables: Over 40% of Germany's electricity now comes from renewables, to reach 80% by 2030. 🟢 Phased out nuclear power: The last nuclear plant closed in April 2023. 🟢 Reduced Green greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: Germany's carbon intensity has declined by 9%, though challenges remain in hard-to-abate sectors. 📌 On top of that, Germany and Vietnam have a strong and growing partnership in green development, with a focus on renewable energy, sustainable urban development, and climate change adaptation. Vietnam has suitable conditions and the willingness from not only the government but also businesses to develop green and sustainably. The most important criterion is now to create a supportive regulatory environment. The regulatory environment should be clear and predictable, and it should provide incentives for green investment. 🤝 Representing German business interests in Vietnam and bearing a strong commitment to being the bridge between the two economies, AHK Vietnam is grateful for the opportunity to share our points of view and expertise to support both German and Vietnamese businesses in various aspects. We extend our sincere thanks to MoFA for the invitation and the other panelists for the insightful discussion today! #AHKVietnam #PartnerInVietNam #PartnerForSuccess #InvestmentInVietnam

👉 Today, the CEO of Afrika-Verein, Mr Christoph Kannengießer, visited the Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Berlin, H.E. El Hadj Ali. The ambassador summarized the visit of Federal Minister Habeck to Algeria and the new plans for the expansion of German-Algerian cooperation in the field of #greenhydrogen and #renewableenergies. In addition, the two discussed joint projects and plans for 2024 and beyond in order to translate the momentum of German-Algerian cooperation into concrete projects. Africa-Verein wants to act as an important bridge builder for this cooperation. Algeria's ambition to cover up to 10% of Europe's future demand for green hydrogen and to become a pioneer in the production of renewable energies, as well as the human and capital resources available for this purpose, could make the North African country an even more important partner for Europe. In this context, Germany is setting new regional standards by signing a declaration of intent to further develop the energy partnership into a bilateral hydrogen partnership on this key geostrategic issue. Germany in particular, with its energy-intensive industry, is dependent on competitive and sustainable energy sources. In addition to the omnipresent energy sector, other sectors also offer growth potential in Algeria. The lifting of additional protective tariffs in the food sector at the end of 2023 has created a new incentive for international investment. The construction and mining sectors also offer opportunities to German companies for enhanced trade & investment. 🔎 Especially for SMEs, Afrika-Verein can be a pertinent partner in developing German-Algerian businesses.
