VIETNAM - GERMANY: CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF ECONOMICS AND FINANCE 📌 Yesterday evening, in Hanoi, the German International Cooperation Organization GIZ Viet Nam together with partners organized the 30th Anniversary of Vietnam - Germany cooperation in the fields of economics and finance. 🤝 AHK Vietnam had the pleasure of being present at the event which also was attended by representatives of leaders of ministries and branches: Planning and Investment; Finance; State Bank of Vietnam; Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Central Institute for Economic Management Research; German Embassy; etc. 📌 Speaking at the event, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam Dr. Guido Hildner affirmed that Germany started collaborating to support reforms in the economy, state budget, and banking system in Vietnam in the 90s, and these reforms are necessary to develop a market economy here. 🤝 The cooperation between the two countries in fields such as green growth, sustainable development, green investment, credit green use, etc. has contributed to creating and strengthening Vietnam's market economic foundation, encouraging private economic development, reforming the state-owned enterprise sector, strengthening budget management in line with the market economy, and forming a two-level banking system in Vietnam. ✅ This milestone is such an outstanding example of the strong friendship and partnership between Vietnam and Germany as well as a strong base for further long-term cooperation in the future. Australian PM: Vietnam the focus of Australia’s Southeast Asia economic strategy Australia will put Vietnam as the focus of the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 it is developing and continue enhancing cooperation with the Mekong Sub-region, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on June 3.The Australian Prime Minister paid an official visit to Vietnam from June 3-4. The two Prime Ministers expressed delight at the fine and effective development of bilateral relations in all fields, with economic cooperation being a bright spot. Two-way trade turnover reached nearly $16 billion in 2022, up 30 per cent against 2021, putting the two sides among each other’s ten largest trading partners. They agreed to promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation, including effectively carrying out the plan on implementing the Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES) for 2021-2025; reinforce the two economies’ connectivity; and step up cooperation in defense, security, official development assistance (ODA), education and training, science and technology, labor, transport, tourism, climate change response, and digital transformation. 🌼 Spring starts with good news in Romania Romania's development efforts are starting to produce results, the entry into the Schengen area and especially the OECD being a difficult undertaking. It recently approved the first formal opinion based on the evaluation of the reforms 🏆 carried out. OECD has currently 38 members, of which 23 European states, developed and aiming to expand with countries with increased potential ⏳ for rapid development, hold over 70% of global production and trade and 90% of the world level of foreign direct investments. Romania proactively came with a series of contributions 🛎 to the programs carried out within the organisation, practically integrating in advance in several respects. Membership is seen as a necessity for progress and well-being. The OECD provides access to leading expertise in diverse fields that can open up long-term opportunities. It will certainly stimulate the attraction 🚀of foreign investments, innovation and competitiveness, according to the assessment of the representatives of the Ministry of Finance. Romania's accession to the OECD also represents a strategic objective of foreign policy, which has received the support of governments over time, the actual process having been started since 2004.

WITH its strategic location in Asia, large English-speaking population and robust domestic market, the Philippines has a vast potential to be an attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). However, the country's FDI inflow has remained relatively low compared to its Southeast Asian neighbors. The lifting of the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution is often cited as a crucial step in creating a more conducive environment for FDI. The Constitution contains several provisions that limit foreign ownership and participation in various sectors of the economy, including land ownership, public utilities, etc. Thus, it is imperative to ask whether amending the economic provisions is indeed a precondition for fostering an FDI-friendly and conducive environment.
