See more updates of our European Business Organisations in the ASEAN Region! 🌏 ▸ In recent events, EBOs in the ASEAN Region joined forces with the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, an initiative of the European Commission to support European Union (EU) small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to protect and enforce their intellectual property rights (IPR) in SEA. • On 5 March, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines organised the “Growth of E-Commerce: Strengthening IP Protection Systems and Protecting Consumers forum. • On 6 March, EUROCHAM Malaysia held an event on the “Legal Impact of AI-Generated Content on Intellectual Property”. • On 14 March, EuroCham Cambodia led a talk on “Safeguarding Your Assets: Understanding Intellectual Property in Cambodia”. • On 27 March, ECCIL EuroCham Laos conducted a session on “Brand Protection in Laos – Implications for SMEs in the region”. ▸ EBOs were also at the forefront of key sustainability initiatives in the region. • The European Association of Business and Commerce Thailand (EABC -The European Chamber of Commerce Thailand) supported the “3rd annual Sustainability Week Asia” last 11-13 March 2024, bringing 4,000 sustainability leaders—from innovative activists to C-suite executives—to explore pressing issues, such as the intersection of climate change and social justice, financing and sustainable change. • Last 13 March, European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham Singapore) organised a collaborative dialogue on “Constructing Sustainability: Rethinking Construction for a Resilient Future”, to redefine the construction industry’s role in global environmental stewardship. • EuroCham Indonesia (The European Business Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia) also organised the launch of the 4th Edition of the EuroCham Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals Report in Jakarta on 6 February. • At the same time, EuroCham organised site visits to Danone and Unilever highlighting their efforts in the area of sustainability and the circular economy. Red Hat Impact and its M&E and Research Partner, Supivaa Advisory Group Ltd, are well into the research phase for the new Indo-Pacific Trade Finance Vehicle (TFV 2.0) and looking to connect with women-led enterprises, investors and stakeholders working in the Indo-Pacific region. To inform the new vehicle, we want to engage with a broad number of stakeholders across the Indo-Pacific uncover the opportunities and challenges facing women owned and led businesses that will also identify additional opportunities where trade finance and facilitation services can serve operational, growth and scaling challenges for women-led micro, small and medium sized enterprises. Our ambition has always been for the Trade Finance Vehicle to become a stand alone entity - Pacific-based, owned and led - that could be commercially sustainable through its trade facilitation and finance services. Thanks to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the team now has the core funding to undertake the necessary research, design and setup activities to make this a reality. I asked the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment how much has been spent on the Industry Transformation Plans to date - turns out it is over $65 million - that the new Government has canned with no suggestion of anything better to replacement the investments across Aotearoa New Zealand's main industries designed to help them compete internationally so we can keep selling stuff overseas. This kind of public investment is a sneaky way around the claim that NZ doesn't subsidise exports - but it does help those industries to remain competitive when others are investing much more in direct and in-direct subsidies. The new Government seems really keen to stop heaps of stuff but with no plan for how else they're going to address the issues, there are some massive gaps emerging in critical areas for the economy, environmental protections and society as a whole.
