We were meeting with local authorities, the local business association, as well as the German Ambassador and the European and German business community in this country. We have felt the determination to overcome poverty and hardship in every story, every meeting, and in the veins of leadership and businesses here. Amidst scorching heat, we made the most of every hour to understand and explore Cambodia, to grasp the opportunities and challenges that persist, to assess and advise on investment, and to facilitate German capital flow into this country. 💡💡💡Our meeting with Minister of Investment Sok has left a positive impression of the Cambodian government's commitment to supporting investment attraction. The Practitioners' Network for European Development Cooperation, chaired by Expertise France, gathers in #Albania. As part of its presidency of the Practitioners' Network, Expertise France organized a field trip to Albania for the members of the network. An opportunity to strengthen #TeamEurope's presence in Albania and the Western Balkans in general. The Practitioners' Network (PN) is the network of European #cooperation agencies. Created in 2007, the network now comprises 24 members, with the European Commission as an observer. Expertise France, from AFD Group, has held the presidency since May 2023, with clear objectives: more effective European development action, mobilizing the expertise of each member; a more legible and visible Team Europe, bringing together technical and financial cooperation; an inclusive and viable Practitioners' Network. In Albania, 2 main themes were discussed collectively: The process of integration into the European Union, and the green agenda, ranging from access to energy and the protection of biodiversity to the development of skills for a digital economy and society. Beyond these moments of dialogue, participants visited projects implemented by PN's members: GIZ's EU4Innovation and ProSEED programs with the EU and Sida, as well as the British Council's 21st Century Schools program. It serves as a forum for Cambodia to develop closer relations with Australia and ASEAN, as well as to boost its standing in the area, foster cultural interchange, and improve economic prospects. Cambodia can assure a prosperous future for its people and establish itself as a major participant in the region by capitalizing on the outcomes of this summit. Exciting News: Colombian Delegation Embarks on Mission to South Korea! WeGO thrilled to share the latest development in fostering bilateral ties between Colombia and South Korea! A delegation comprising esteemed representatives from Colombian local, national, and territorial entities is set to embark on a mission trip to South Korea, marking a significant step towards deepening exchange and cooperation between the two nations. During my first visit in Norway, I had the chance to participate in The Africa Outlook 2024 event in the presence of Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, State Secretary Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized by the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA) at NHO. As Director for Norway, It was an enriching experience delving into the Norwegian ecosystem, opportunities and challenges shaping the future of business between Norway and the African continent. The event underscored the huge opportunities of fostering strong ties between Norway and Africa. Norway has long been committed to supporting sustainable development across the continent. With their tradition of commitment to sustainable development and expertise in sectors such as energy, technology and natural resource management, Norway is well placed to make a positive contribution to Africa's transformation. However, this requires a pragmatic approach and a nuanced understanding of the risks and opportunities. Risk perception is often a crucial element in investments and partnerships decisions. It is essential to recognize that risk in Africa can be effectively managed through in-depth knowledge of local markets and strategic partnerships with reliable players. Although Africa can sometimes be associated with risks, whether political, economic or security-related, it is important to recognise that this view is often simplistic and does not reflect the diversity African realities. Investing in Cote d’Ivoire is not the same as investing in Soudan or Morocco or in the 51 other countries. Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation has, during the event, hinted at a new strategy covering up to 50% of the costs covered in the works, set to be unveiled later this year. This signals a dynamic shift in supporting Norwegian companies to export themselves to the continent. In addition, I'm thrilled to announce that a forthcoming dossier exploring the bilateral relations between Norway and Africa will be featured in The Africa Report. 📢 In recent days, #FONASBA hosted several Regional Roundtables - crucial platforms for engaging with members to discuss common challenges, perspectives, and opportunities. ➡️ #Africa Roundtable The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among African nations, particularly on topics related to political and security issues. It emphasized the need to foster better relations with local governments to find solutions for increasing trade across the continent. With the closing ceremony of the Africa Partnership Conference in Mauritius, we draw an end to numerous thoughtful panels and eye-opening presentations. Certainly, the last two-days saw a défilé of global financial experts and economic pundits. Some key take-aways: There is indeed, a resounding voice echoing on the international scene, with a call pointing towards Africa as the next market to be explored; a call which must not be set aside by any existing or new super power. Should we, Mauritians consider this call substantial or a sugar-coated potential deals trap for both Mauritius and Africa? What about the debt-traps being laid globally by China, starting on the African continent and ending with Sri Lanka (there will be more)! Are foreign investors really interested in Africa? Developing economies in Africa consider Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) an extremely significant part in their country’s sustainable development and economic growth because FDI today brings in the much awaited capital and investments in its different sectors, helps to create jobs, provides a vector to share technology and exchange knowledge and ultimately facilitates Africa’s involvement in the global value chain. Bharat (India) has also extended lines of credit and grants for infrastructure projects, agricultural development and capacity building to Mama Afrika. With its soft power, AI developments and latest IT infrastructure led by Indians, much wealth creation will happen throughout Africa in the coming years. Should Mauritians not benefit of this since we enjoy privileged cultural & friendly ties with Bharat? What also pleasantly astounded me were the remarks of Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the evergreen PM Sri Narendra Modi's Economic Advisory Council. He exclaimed that Bharat has begun to raise a specific issue at global forums. He said the indices were being compiled by a "tiny group of think-tanks in the North Atlantic," sponsored by three or four funding agencies that are "driving a real-world agenda." Can this monopoly be broken and why can’t us, Africans have our own rating agencies and own ‘African’ World Bank!

After 3 days of discussion in Madrid, the AFRICA SPAIN COOPERATION SUMMIT organised by One Africa Forums just ended. From the debates I moderated, it appears that there is a need for a new cooperation between Spain and Africa. A cooperation based on a win-win approach. A cooperation where the European Union changes mindset and builds it around a new trust. It is important as Africa is a promising continent with lot of particularities: ▶ 54 countries ▶ more than 2000 languages ▶ underpopulated with 16 habitants per km2 in Mali or 47 habitants per km2 in RDC ▶ 84 millions acres uncultivated arable land ▶ 7 from 10 biggest economies growth are in Africa There is only 14km between Spain and Africa. 14km that should be used as a promising bridge instead of an invisible border.
