Today, I celebrate—not for International Workers' Day, which to me still carries a Soviet-era connotation, but for a milestone far more significant to me and my country. Today marks the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's membership in the European Union, a monumental achievement that dates back to 2004. We worked diligently to meet the EU's standards, and truly earned our place. I'm totally sure that this membership has not only strengthened the 10 countries that joined the EU on May 1, 2004, but it has also fortified the EU itself. Personally, it has made me stronger as well. For my company, Diskusija, it opened up myriad opportunities—from translating the acquis communautaire, which spurred our growth, to accessing new markets that have welcomed Lithuanian businesses and attracted foreign interest in our market. The list of benefits is long and widely recognized in Lithuania, and I hope our fellow EU citizens in other countries see more advantages than disadvantages too. Today, more than ever, we need to stand united and uphold our shared values. To all my friends also marking this anniversary: Do you celebrate? Remember talking about those 7 countries whose citizens should receive a free access to the Czech Labour market? 🤔 Other 3 countries are closer to become “members of the club”. As from the reflection process, Taiwan 🇹🇼, Singapore 🇸🇬 and Israel 🇮🇱 were nominated to extend the list and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs should already be working on these changes incorporation. Every country has its own unique characteristics and approaches to fulfilling its needs. Regarding immigration, the United States, founded by immigrants, has a complex history. However, President Biden's criticism of countries like Japan, China, and Russia for not embracing ignoring these countries history and their reality. It's worth noting that both China and Japan historically have not been major destinations for immigrants, although they have started to attract qualified foreigners, such as myself, for work in recent years. #Biden should acknowledge that countries like China with vast populations also possess highly educated individuals seeking employment opportunities. Moreover, a country with a strong native workforce may not necessarily require significant immigration. Therefore, labeling China and #Japan as xenophobic is both simplistic and inaccurate. “You know, one of the reasons why our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants,” #Biden said, according to reporters traveling with the president at a fundraiser with Asian American and Pacific Islander supporters. “The reason – look, think about it. In wake of its demographic crisis, Japan is opening its economy, and by extension its society, to foreign labor. Japan, a country that is known for its anti-immigrant policies, is now allowing permanent stay for foreign workers in a dozen sectors, allowing these workers to also bring their families. The European Union, a supranational political and economic union that consists of 27 states, and is responsible for approximately one sixth of global GDP, offers unlimited prospects. Choosing a favourable first station is more important than hard-work for people from developing countries who plan to emigrate. This essay takes Chinese for example, scrutinizes some criteria in country selection that allows them to navigate their life, career, and obtain permanent residency with ease. First and foremost, maintaining cordial ties with your country of origin is essential to ensure long-term enjoyment and security. The Chinese prioritize Hungary over France and Germany, with Lithuania and the Czech Republic receiving the least attention due to their antagonistic relations with China. Additionally, thousands of Chinese companies have made significant investments in Hungary, and given the level of cultural confluence between the two nations at both government and commercial levels, Hungary is unquestionably an ideal destination for Chinese people. In Budapest, the capital of Hungary, there are already 60,000 Chinese business owners. Chinese Chambers of Commerce are located throughout Hungary and are named after 34 provinces. All this makes it easy for Chinese newcomers to find a job or start their own business using resources available to them at home. The local cuisine of Hungary is remarkably similar to that of China, and because there are so many Chinese residing there and developing their own social network, even those who don't understand English can get by comfortably. Hungary has an above average number and caliber of elementary and secondary schools, particularly the bilingual international schools in Chinese and English. The costs are fairly reasonable and affordable for middle-class employees, which is a plus. Last but not least, it's fairly simple to become a Hungarian permanent resident. Three years is required through employment-based immigration, and only 2 months are required when immigrating as an investor, and property is an approved investment. When investors obtain their PR from offshore, and then come to choose whatever properties they prefer, they are not bound to any specific developer. Therefore, the value of the house is guaranteed. In conclusion, Hungary is an obvious first choice for Chinese hoping to move abroad. The close cultural, financial and even governmental ties with China, along with favourable immigration policy, makes the moving process as well as initial setting in process smooth.Hungary is also a great stepping stone to the rest of Europe and consequently the rest of the world.

7th of October marks the World Day of Decent Work organised by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). Currently, the EU is increasingly grappling with labor shortages, and addressing skill gaps could involve simplifying qualification procedures and tapping into the talents of migrants and refugees already residing in the EU. MPG’s Integration Policy Analyst, Dr. Sinem Yilmaz, emphasized this point, saying to EURACTIV, "Many migrants are overqualified for their jobs while European employers struggle to find people with the skills that they need. However, to harness the skills of third-country nationals, the EU must create an environment that attracts them to live within its borders. Dr. Sinem Yilmaz highlights the need for a broader approach, saying, “Narrow policies focusing solely on attracting skills from outside the EU will not work if member states do not ensure a welcoming community for migrants." Our collaborative efforts shed light on the challenges and opportunities posed by the high influx of foreign workers. Addressing this issue requires proactive responses from social partners: more discussion and actions are needed, taking into consideration both the labor and societal consequences.
