Northern Vietnam Industrial Parks: Benefits and Challenges Utilizing industrial parks in northern Vietnam offers numerous benefits for foreign firms. The region has a well-developed transportation network, strategic proximity to China, and generally lower prices compared to the southern part of the country. Demand for land in industrial parks in northern Vietnam has been on an upward climb for the last several years. This once mostly agricultural part of Vietnam is now an industrial manufacturing hub with big names like Samsung and Honda calling the region home. However, there are also some challenges to consider when establishing a manufacturing plant or factory in one of northern Vietnam’s industrial parks. Bureaucratic hurdles and complex administrative procedures can pose difficulties when setting up a business in this region. Understanding these challenges can give firms an edge as they seek to make their market entry as seamless as possible.  Despite these challenges, northern Vietnam remains very popular among foreign enterprises and there has been a wave of investment in newly registered projects in the first half of 2023, including Foxconn, Goertek, and Pegatron. The I-EA-T collaborated with Thailand Board of Investment (BOI)) and major private enterprises in Thailand that engage in business partnerships with South Korea. These enterprises include PTT Public Company Limited and Charoen Pokphand Group Co.,Ltd. The objective was to organise roadshow events to attract investment in Seoul, Republic of Korea, under the investment seminar titled "Thailand Investment Promotion Strategy: NEW Economy, NEW Opportunities". The primary aim of these roadshows was to attract investments. Over 180 investors representing target industries, including electric vehicles, medical, electronics, and others, demonstrated their interest and participated in the event. During the investment seminars, the I-EA-T actively participated in investment seminars and presented the potential and readiness of all 68 industrial estates in 16 provinces. These estates include those managed solely by the I-EA-T and those operated through joint efforts with the private sector. All of these estates are fully equipped to support investments. Moreover, the seminars provided valuable information about the I-EA-T, highlighted various tax and non-tax benefits and instilled confidence in South Korean investors regarding investments in Thai industrial estates. As a result of these discussions and efforts, four industrial investors have shown keen interest in investing in industrial estates within the EEC and nearby regions. The investors belong to the following sectors: 1. Electric tuk tuk and electric motorcycle 2. Specialised anti-fog coating for cars 3. Business operators involved in medical equipment (Medical Hub) and related technologies used in medical devices such as surgical equipment, X-ray machines, etc. 4. We have just returned from a visit to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, where we had the opportunity to witness firsthand the transition of a client's steel pipe manufacturing plant towards Industry 4.0 (IR4.0). Vietnam is a manufacturing powerhouse, with around a quarter of its GDP coming from that sector, which is expected to increase to 30% by 2030. With competitive labour costs, a strategic geographic location, and robust government support, Vietnam is an attractive destination for manufacturers looking to diversify their production bases and tap into a skilled yet cost-effective workforce. Industry 4.0 - the fourth industrial revolution - applies advanced digital technology to a factory. Imaging automatically measures the plant's performance - such as production, defects, consumption, and more - and optimises each.
