Marc De Vos. Kristof Luycx from Credendo shared the findings of their export barometer, based on the experiences and opinions of 1,000+ Belgian export and trade leaders (your humble servant being one of them). The geopolitical tensions have been the main subject of the event. Europe needs to unite its, no, our forces to defend our commercial interests in this challenging world. The ECCP has just published a new input paper presenting observations on the Styrian cluster landscape: ✅Styria has the fourth largest economy among Austria´s states, accounting for 12.6% of the national GDP. ✅Styria is an important trading centre, accounting for almost 15% of Austria's total exports, largely driven by its strong automotive industry. ✅Styria still has a strong industrial presence. This is reflected in EU industrial ecosystems such as Construction, Agri-Food, Mobility, Transport-Automotive, Energy Intensive Industries and Electronics, all of which have employment levels above the Austrian and EU averages. ✅Styria's innovation ecosystem shows robust strengths, underlined by a vibrant mix of multinationals and SMEs engaged in advanced technology and research. Thomas Dermine, the newly elected mayor of Charleroi and former State Secretary for Economic Recovery and Strategic Investments in the Belgian Federal Government, introduced the Catch Turbo Plan—Charleroi Métropole’s strategic initiative to enhance regional attractiveness. Developed by the Committee of Strategic Development at the request of the Walloon government, Catch Turbo focuses on five priority areas: 🔹 Advanced Manufacturing 🔹 Health and Biotech 🔹 Airport and Logistics 🔹 Creative and Digital Industries 🔹 Food Production and Innovation These priority areas align with the longstanding efforts of key stakeholders who have been shaping Charleroi Métropole’s economic development over the past two decades, ensuring continuity while fostering innovation and growth in the region.

Lionel Bonjean, Director of SPW EER, outlined the primary mission and objectives of Wallonie Économie Emploi Recherche. Clusters in Wallonia were established in 2000, followed by the launch of several Competitiveness Poles in 2005 to enhance R&D and international competitiveness. The primary objectives of Walloon clusters are to stimulate innovation, foster public-private collaboration, increase international visibility, and support the structuring of sectoral ecosystems. SPW EER also plays a key role in developing the region's Smart Specialisation Strategy.
